Description
This is a late 18th century house, likely with 19th and 20th century alterations. It forms part of a row on Church Street in Modbury. The upper two floors are clad in painted slate hanging above a rendered ground floor, with an asbestos-cement slate roof. The house has three storeys and two windows. The ground floor features a late 19th century canted bay window to the left and a 19th century canted display window with a glazed door. The door has a 3-light front and a single-light return, set under a simple fascia and cornice. A 20th century glazed door is centrally positioned, beneath a floating cornice. The first floor contains a 4-pane sash window to the left and a canted bay over the shop front, with a hipped roof. A central 6-pane sash window, dating to the mid-19th century, occupies the first floor, flanked on either side by lozenge-shaped panels of unpainted slate hanging. There is a large rendered chimney stack to the left and a smaller brick chimney stack to the right. The building is included on the list for its contribution to the group value of the street.
