Description

Venn is a farmhouse built in the early 19th century, with an extension added in the early 20th century. The building features dressed slate walls, with the southwest side being slate-hung. It has a slate hipped roof with projecting eaves and a single depth plan that includes a service wing at the rear. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three bays. It is adorned with sash windows that have glazing bars, set in openings with dressed flat arches and painted stone cills. The central entrance is framed by a Doric doorcase with fluted pilasters, an open pediment, and a semi-circular fanlight with intersecting glazing bars, along with fielded panel reveals and a fielded panel door. At the rear, there is an early 19th-century two-storey slate-hung wing, and the early 20th-century extension features a two-storeyed canted bay that projects to the right, with casement windows. Notably, a manor at Venn is mentioned in the Domesday Book.
