Description
The former kitchen garden walls, located immediately southwest of Membland Garden Cottage, date from around 1880 to 1890 and are likely the work of George Devey's office. Constructed of red brick in Flemish garden wall bond, the walls feature brick saddle-back coping with a dentilled cornice. Square piers at the corners have moulded stone caps topped with ball finials. Similar piers flank a round-arched doorway on the south side, which has a semi-circular gable above it. There is also a round-arched doorway on the west side. The north wall is partly made of stone and includes a brick portal with a rusticated arch and gable, also adorned with ball finials and a sundial. These walls enclose a large former kitchen garden situated on a sloping site.
