Description
A group of buildings, originally stables to Membland Hall, now comprising four houses. Membland Hall itself has been demolished. The stables date to the 18th century and were remodelled in the late 19th century before being converted into houses in the 20th century. The buildings are constructed of slate rubble with red brick dressings and have a slate roof, featuring late 19th-century brick Dutch gables with moulded brick pediments. They are arranged around three sides of a courtyard. The buildings are two storeys high, with wide, segmentally and elliptically arched carriageways, some of which have been blocked. Window openings are arched with brick and contain casement windows. A wooden cupola sits atop the centre of the central (east) range, and there are brick ridge chimney stacks. Reference details can be found in Country Life, April 1982, page 1236.
