Description

Pink Cottage is a house dating to approximately the late 17th or early 18th century, with a later 20th-century extension. It is constructed of colour-washed stone rubble, with a slate roof featuring gabled ends. A projecting stone rubble stack on the front has weathered set-offs and a roughcast shaft.

The original plan comprised two rooms; a larger room on the right, originally heated by the front stack, and a smaller, unheated room on the left. There was likely originally a cross passage. A single-storey extension was added in the late 20th century on higher ground at the rear, connected to the main house with a first-floor doorway.

The east front is asymmetrical, with two windows, likely dating to the 18th or 19th century, featuring two-light casements with glazing bars (the ground floor window on the right has been replaced). A central doorway has a 20th-century door and canopy, and the projecting lateral stack is situated on the right. Small casement windows are present on the left gable end. The rear extension has a hipped roof.

Internally, both ground floor rooms retain broad, chamfered joists. A later partition separates the rooms, and a staircase is located at the rear. The lateral fireplace in the right-hand room is now blocked by a 20th-century fireplace. The roof space contains a three-bay structure with halved, crossed, and pegged trusses at the apex, collars halved, lapped and pegged to the principals, trenched purlins, a diagonal ridgepiece, and intact common rafters.
