Description

84 High Street is an early 16th-century building that was refronted in the early 19th century. It has three storeys and features one window. The roof is hipped and covered with Welsh slate. The front is timber-framed and plastered, with a jettied first floor and a coved eaves cornice. The masonry party walls have chamfered corbels from the former first-floor jetty, which are carried up as plastered pilaster strips. The windows are architraved sash windows with sidelights and glazing bars. The shopfront, added in the late 19th century, includes fluted pilasters and an entablature with a dentil cornice, along with a modern shop window and doorway. Inside, the attic retains sections of reused early 16th-century linenfold panelling, which is also used at the top of the staircase that features early 18th-century turned balusters and a moulded handrail. The original roof structure includes collared trusses.
