Description
No. 62 Brownston Street is a broad frontage house dating from around 1840, located on the east side of Brownston Street in Modbury. The building features a smooth rendered exterior and a slate roof, rising three storeys with three windows across its front.
The ground and first floors are adorned with 16-pane sash windows, while the second floor has 12-pane sashes. The ground floor windows are set within rusticated quoins, with voussoirs and a vermiculated keystone above. The first floor windows have a similar treatment but are topped with a plain lintel, and the second floor features plat-band surrounds.
A central 6-panel door, dating from the 20th century, is positioned under a transom light with diamond glazing bars. This entrance is flanked by fluted non-diminished 'Doric' columns at the bases and is topped with a flat entablature. The house has a plinth and alternating quoins. There is a brick stack on the right side and a 12-pane sash window in the attic located in the gable, along with a larger stack at the back on the right side.
