Description
Bay Cottages is a house located at the corner of Kingston Village Centre, dating from the early 19th century. The building is cement rendered with a slate roof. It features a gable entry at the right end, while the left end is concealed by a later addition. The house has two storeys and two windows facing the main road, with 6-pane sash windows on the ground floor and 16-pane sash windows above. The return gable has a 16-pane sash window at each level on the right side, along with an additional 16-pane window in an extension at one level. Between these windows is a casement window with a slated hood, which may have been a former doorway, and a small light in a projecting stair turret. On the left side, there is a flush panelled door beneath a slated pent hood. The building features a large gable stack, raised in brick, and a smaller brick stack on the left gable, positioned halfway up the slope. The interior of the house remains largely unaltered, making it a strong example of early 19th-century vernacular architecture. It served as a wheelwright's cottage until the early 20th century.
