Description

This is an early 18th-century building, possibly originally built as a pair with the adjacent property at No. 26, attributed to the builder John Awatt. It was formerly used to house the Old Theatre and is now a store. The building is three stories high with an attic and has three windows. It has a Welsh slate roof with a gabled front and a moulded bargeboard. The front facade is plastered and features rusticated detailing on the first floor. Above this is a coved cornice, ornamented with swags. The second-floor sash windows have glazing bars and are framed by scrollwork decoration. Modern casement windows are located on the first floor, incorporating decorative keystones. The shopfront has been modernized.

Inside, there is a late 18th-century dogleg staircase with turned balusters, newels, and carved brackets. At the rear is a mid-19th-century theatre entrance, flanked by pilasters supporting a broken pediment with a central decorative feature. A foyer screen leads to the theatre and comprises three round-arched openings with archivolts, keystones, and a dentil cornice. The theatre itself has been altered.
