Description
This building is a stables and shippon with a loft above, located approximately 30 metres south-east of Great Fisherton Farmhouse. It dates from the late 17th century and is constructed of stone rubble and cob, topped with a gable-ended corrugated iron roof. The building has an L-shaped plan.
The left-hand projection features a loft door above a 2-light window, situated to the right of an infilled doorway on the gable end. There is a stable door on the courtyard side with a timber window to the right, which was originally a 3-light window but has had its mullions removed. The main range has two stable doors, flanked by window openings, with a loft door positioned above.
At the rear, there are two large buttresses, with the lower end buttress supporting a timber mullion window of 2 lights above it, and a chamfered window surround to the right. The upper end of the gabled projection has a single truss with short curved feet, while the other two trusses have been replaced. The main range contains four trusses with short curved feet and two tiers of threaded purlins, although the threaded ridge purlin has been removed. One of the trusses still retains its lap-jointed collar.
