Description
The building is a former stable located approximately 10 metres south of Ford Farmhouse, likely dating from the late 18th century. It features granite rubble walls with larger quoins at the lower end and has a corrugated iron roof that is gabled at the left end and hipped at the right.
The original plan probably included two loose boxes with individual access at the front, separated by a solid wall from a row of stalls at the rear. There is a later open-ended addition, possibly a cart shed, at one end. Above the stable section is a hay loft. The stonework shows various interruptions that do not align with the current layout. The stable is two storeys tall, while the cart shed is the same height but only one storey.
On the ground floor of the original building, there are two doors at the left and right ends, with a window in between. A window is positioned on the first floor to the left of centre. On the right gable end, there is a small window opening on the ground floor to the left and a door to the right that provides access to the stalls. A loading door is located on the first floor. The addition at the left gable end of the stable is open-ended and features a doorway on the right side of the front wall.
Inside, the loose boxes contain wooden hayracks, and original fittings remain in the stalls, including sloping wooden partitions, wooden mangers, and hayracks. Heavy rough cross beams support the loft floor above the stalls, and the roof is pegged with high collars. This stable forms a group with Ford Farmhouse and its associated farm buildings.
