Description
This is a thatched cottage, likely built in the 18th century or early 19th century, located about 80 metres northeast of the church on the south side of the road in Mariansleigh. The cottage is constructed of cob and stone rubble, which has been whitewashed and rendered, and features a thatched roof that is gabled at the left end and half-hipped at the right end. There are end stacks and a rear outshut with a slated roof.
The plan of the cottage is not entirely clear as the interior was not accessible during the survey in 1987, but it is presumed to have a single depth, two-room layout with a central entrance, likely consisting of a kitchen and a parlour, with a later addition of the rear outshut.
The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical three-window front, which includes a 20th-century lean-to porch and 19th and 20th-century timber casements with glazing bars. The cottage is noted as the only thatched cottage remaining in the village of Mariansleigh.
