Description
The Stables, located 25 metres north of Youlston Park, is a late 18th-century building. It is constructed of rubble rendered in stucco, featuring banded rustication and a stone platband, with some brick infill. The structure is one and a half storeys high and has a three-sided layout topped with hipped slate roofs, which have lead rolls and are hipped to the projecting wings. Surrounding the courtyard is a stone wall with gate posts that have ball finials. Each wing contains four lunettes in the attic storey and two timber sash windows with six panes per sash below. The central block features semi-circular arched doorways on either side of the sash windows, which also have six panes per sash, flanking two central door openings that have been enlarged and altered. In the attic storey, there are four timber sash windows with four panes each, with the central pair forming two tripartite lunettes. The original partitions that create nine mangers are still present in the southern block.
