5/69 Upcott Farmhouse -

GV II

Farmhouse, C16 altered and extended C17, refenestrated late C18. Stone rubble and cob, colourwashed except for gable and stacks, with slate roofs. Now 2 storeys, originally a 3-room and cross passage plan possibly with an open hall. Said to have smoke blackened roof timbers (1864) but could not be inspected. Also plaque on gable stack at upper end GR1672 may indicate date of floor insertion and addition of outshut to rear. Lower end may have been rebuilt and has a C17 extension at right angles to front. Large stone rubble stacks at all 3 gable ends and tall brick stack on front wall. Hall facade has 3 ground floor timber sashes with glazing bars 8 panes per sash, that on left side has tripartite sashes. 2 sashes with glazing bars 8 panes per sash above. C20 porch.
