Description
Simpson Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 16th or 17th century, with later additions. It is constructed of rendered stone or cob with quoins and features a slated roof that has gables at both ends. There is a large stack with a tapered top on the left-hand gable and a 19th-century brick stack on the right-hand gable. A large projecting stack on the rear wall likely heated the former hall. The layout is probably three rooms with a through-passage and an L-wing, which may be a later addition, at the rear to the right. The building has two storeys and a four-window front with five bays, with the windows grouped to the left. The ground storey includes a six-panel door in the doorway of the second bay from the left, which is sheltered by a porch with a flat hood supported by slender columns. There is one window on either side of the door and a third window at the right-hand end. All windows, except for the last one which has a 20th-century metal casement, feature six-paned barred sashes. The ground floor windows are wider and not suited for six-pane sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
