Description
Well House is probably an early 18th-century farmhouse that was remodelled in the 19th century. It is constructed of rubble walls, with a stucco finish on the front elevation, and has a hipped roof covered in asbestos slate. A large rubble stack is located at the rear. The house has a double-depth plan and was remodelled in the mid-19th century to create principal rooms at the front, with a central stairhall. A stack to the rear-right-hand room is present. An outshut at the rear, behind the stack and projecting behind the right-hand rear room, may be integral. The symmetrical, three-window facade is of the mid-19th century, featuring 4-pane sash windows. A 20th-century door is located centrally, with a rectangular fanlight above, containing radial glazing bars. An outshut projects at the rear on the left-hand side. During a survey, the interior was not accessible but revealed a heavy timber lintel over a lateral fireplace and a mid-19th-century staircase with turned newels and stick balusters.
