Bowden Farmhouse

Bowden Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with later 18th-century dairy and 19th-century kitchen extensions added to the rear. The building is constructed from rendered shale with some cob and features a slate roof with lateral gable ends and a brick stack at the gable end. The 19th-century extension has slate-hanging on the wall at its lower end.

The farmhouse has a three-cell plan with a cross-passage that is now blocked, suggesting it may have originally had an open hall. It stands two storeys tall. The lower end of the building has two inserted 20th-century casement windows above a plain door to the left, and a 20th-century porch at the cross-passage doorway. To the right, there are two 20th-century inserted casement windows on either side of a large lateral stack, which has been rendered and heightened with offsets and a pronounced lean. At the upper end, there is a French window with two 20th-century dormer windows above. Evidence of a former jetty is visible through the plastered downstand construction, indicating the presence of an open hall. The first floor and roof have not been inspected.
