Description
Kennacott Farmhouse is a 16th-century farmhouse constructed of colour washed stone and plastered cob. It features a gable-end slate roof with an axial brick stack and has a three-cell cross or through passage plan, along with a small room added at the lower end. The building is two storeys high and has a five-window range. On the first floor, there are two three-light timber casements on the left and three two-light casements on the right, all with glazing bars. The left-hand three windows have three panes per light, while the right side has six panes per light.
The farmhouse has a set-off stone porch with a slated gable roof, and a square-headed ovolo moulded doorway that contains an ancient framed and ledged door with cover strips. To the left of the door, there is a square window opening with a three-light timber window featuring three panes per sash. On either side of the three-light timber casement, there are two two-light casements, each with six panes per light on the right side. At the rear, there is a stone outshut that includes two four-paned windows on each side of a stable door at the upper end.
To the right of the outshut, three round stone pillars with infill suggest the former presence of a single-storey linhay. A three-light ovolo moulded window is located on the first floor at the rear. The roof of the washing house is higher and has a brick stack, while there is a blocked stair and turret at the lower end. The roof at the lower end has been raised in cob to create level eaves, and this gable is blind except for a small boarded opening. Inside, there is a chamfered doorframe in the rear outshut and chamfered ceiling beams in the hall, which feature rough scroll stops. Another chamfered beam can be found in the inner room.
