Description
27 Portland Street is a mid-19th century house located in Ilfracombe. The building features a rendered solid front with slate-hung side walls and a tarred, slated mansard roof. The roof has tall gable parapets with shaped red brick copings, finished with large corbelled blocks at the front. There is a short red brick chimney on each gable. The house is single-fronted with a double-depth plan and has a small rectangular projection at the rear of the left side. It stands three lofty storeys high with a garret and has a two-window front. The ground storey is rusticated and features a moulded raised band at the sill level of the second storey. The upper storeys have rusticated quoins and a moulded raised band between them. The doorway on the left side of the ground storey is moulded and square-headed, leading to a six-panelled door with a plain fanlight above. All windows across the three storeys have moulded architraves on shaped sills, with those in the second and third storeys supported by enriched brackets at each end. The building also has a bracketed wooden eaves-cornice and two flat-topped dormer windows, all containing two-paned sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
