Description

This is a mid-19th-century house located on Pilton Street in Barnstaple. The lower storey is solid and rendered, while the upper storeys are of painted brick. It has a slate roof and a rendered chimney on the right-hand side wall.

The house is three storeys high and has a three-window front. The ground storey is rusticated. A doorway is located at the left-hand end, featuring a rusticated pilaster-strip to the right, which has a reeded band and a key-pattern detail above. To the right of the doorway are two windows with eight-pane sashes. A prominent cornice sits above the ground storey, supported by paired brackets. The second storey incorporates a canted bay window with a panelled base and a lean-to corrugated-iron roof; the windows are sashes, with the middle light featuring two panes. Tall, narrow, round-arched recesses are positioned on either side of the bay window. The third storey has a blind window in the centre, flanked by two windows with six-pane sashes. A deep eaves cornice, also bracketed, finishes the façade. The interior was not inspected.
