Northern Part Of Range Of Farmbuildings, Comprising Linhay, Stables And Shippon Approximately 25 Metres West Of South Hole Farmhouse

This range of farm buildings comprises a linhay, stables, and shippon located approximately 25 metres west of South Hole Farmhouse. The stables and shippon likely date to the 18th century, incorporating earlier reused elements, while the cart linhay is from the 19th century. The buildings are constructed of cob with some rubble, and they have corrugated iron roofs, hipped on the left side, covering the stables and shippon. The cart linhay and rear extensions have clay tiled roofs. A single-storey cart shed is attached to the left. The stables and shippon are under a single roof and have two storeys with a loft above. There are two right-angled extensions at the rear. Openings are generally covered by timber lintels. The stable features a square loft opening to the left, and an opening to the left of the stable door. The shippon has a wide 20th-century cart entrance and a tall loft door above a small grille bar opening. An early, reset window is on the right side, possibly originally a hall window from South Hole farmhouse; it consists of three tall mullioned lights with painted arches. Ventilation openings are on either side of a narrow door on the right side. The linhay, stables, and shippon form the northern section of a longer range of farm buildings, which includes a root house, a cart shed, and a fat bullocks house to the south.
