Description
This pair of gravestones marks the head and foot of the grave of George Saunders, located approximately 13 metres southwest of the southwest corner of the west tower of the Church of St Peter. The gravestones date from 1745 and are made of slate. The headstone features a segmental arch and has an incised depiction of an angel blowing a trumpet above the inscription that records the death of George Saunders in 1745. The stone at the foot of the grave displays a skull and crossbones flanking a pierced heart, along with a verse that reflects on mortality and reunion with loved ones.
