Description

This is a chest tomb dated 1793, located approximately 4.5 metres east of the chapel of the Church of St Andrew. It is dedicated to John Saunders and is made of Hamstone ashlar. The tomb has a rectangular shape and rests on a moulded plinth. Its lid features soffit-moulding and a low-pitched ridge along the top. Each side of the tomb is adorned with fielded panels, and there are panelled pilasters at both ends of the long sides. The west end panel is inscribed, with the first word in Gothic lettering and the remainder in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, commemorating the death of John Saunders in 1793.
