Description
Muse Hill is a tenement farmhouse, likely dating from the early 18th century, which may have originally been divided into two separate occupations. The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble and cob, topped with a slate roof featuring gable ends. It has an axial brick stack and an additional stack at the right gable end. The layout consists of three rooms arranged in a line, with direct entry into the two larger rooms at each end. The room on the right was used as a kitchen, which includes a staircase in the rear left-hand corner. There is a solid wall partition separating this kitchen from the smaller room to the left. The large room at the left end may have once functioned as a separate cottage; a staircase was removed in the 20th century, along with possibly an internal partition.
The exterior of the farmhouse is two storeys high and features a three-window range with early 20th-century fenestration, including two-light and three-light casements, each with two panes per light. There is a plank door located towards the left end, leading to a stone rubble porch that has a gabled slate roof, wall benches, and a plank inner door.
An initial inspection of the interior indicates that few alterations have occurred since the 19th century. The right end room contains a chamfered cross beam and a chamfered fireplace lintel, which is inscribed with "JB 1817."
