Description

Newhouse Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 17th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century, including changes to the windows and roof, as well as some internal rearrangements. The building features a rubble core that is roughcast and whitewashed, wide eaves, and a slate roof with gabled ends. It has tall 19th-century brick stacks.

The farmhouse has a single room depth layout, with the main entrance leading into a lobby on the left. This lobby is situated opposite a back-to-back chimney that serves a kitchen on the left and a hall on the right, with an inner room at the extreme right heated by a gable-end stack. Some remodelling occurred in the 19th century.

The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical five-bay design. It includes 19th-century casement windows with two and three lights, featuring small panes and closely set glazing bars. The door opening is located in the third bay from the left, featuring an early 19th-century six-panelled door, with the top two panels cut away and glazed, and a small slated pentice above.

The interior could not be fully inspected during the survey, but notable early 19th-century joinery was observed, including a cupboard in the hall.
