Lower Ashley

Lower Ashley is a mid-19th century estate farmhouse located on Ashley Back Lane in Tiverton. The building has a rendered exterior that replaces the original stucco and features a dry slate roof with projecting front eaves supported by brackets. It also has a central pedimented gable and verge purlins on the open-pedimented gable ends, along with brick end stacks. The farmhouse has a double-depth plan, consisting of two front reception rooms on either side of a central entrance and stair hall.

The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-bay front, prominently featuring a central projecting pedimented bay. There are segmental arches above the original 16-pane hornless sash windows. The central doorway is set within a gabled and pedimented porch that has similar detailing to the main roof, and it features a planked door.

Inside, the interior remains virtually unaltered and includes an open-well staircase with an open string and stick balusters.
