Description
The stables and carriage house immediately south of Ashley Court were likely built in the mid-19th century. They feature rubble walls with brick arches and a dry slate roof that is hipped on the left, forming a rectangular plan.
The building has two storeys, including a loft that is partly within the roof space, and presents a one-window range. The original windows include a central six-pane dormered window that breaks the eaves and has shaped barge boards, along with another six-pane window below and to the left, which has a hopper head. All ground-floor openings are topped by segmental arches, with three wide doorways on the ground floor—two on the left and one on the right, which is sheltered by a deep slate-roofed canopy supported by wooden brackets. The doors are ledged and braced.
The interior has been partially inspected and reveals original features such as a cast-iron and planked loose box with ramped balustrades, turned corner piers with ball finials, and a corner door with two stop-chamfered panels. The floor is made of brick.
This building has good group value with the house and stables and overlooks a cobbled yard.
