Description

SHOBROOKE UPPINCOTT SS 80 SE 2/94 Linhay and Stables adjoining - east end of Uppincott Farmhouse GV II Linhay and stables comprising 3 adjoining ranges around farmyard. Mid - late C19. Mostly cob on rubble footings, south wall brick on rubble; machine-sawn pine; slate roof, 6½-bay linhay to south, 4½-bay linhay to east, 6-bay linhay and 5-bay stables to north with hipped end to roof. All 2-storeys facing into courtyard. Half-bays provide passages through wings. Linhays are posts and beams tied into rear walls, open hay lofts to first floor, byres with plank gates to ground. Stables (left side of north range) have 2 double doors with unglazed, 2-light windows to right. Loading bay over right door and 2-light window to left. Front principals of roof trusses have been extended to carry pent roof around courtyard. Back wall of south range is brick on rubble since it forms garden wall alongside front of farmhouse (qv). Many original fittings survive, including pine feeding troughs. Component of well-preserved, planned farmyard.
