Description
The farmhouse at Uppincott dates to the late 16th and early 17th centuries, with substantial modernisation around the mid-19th century and a later 19th-century addition. It is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with brick and cob stacks and a 20th-century asbestos slate roof, which originally was thatched. The original 3-room and through-passage plan has been much altered. A large axial brick stack, located left of centre, is of uncertain date and disrupts the façade intended for four windows. The front door is set to the right, and it is a 6-panelled door with glazed upper panels, set within a Tuscan pilaster doorcase with a simple entablature. Most windows are timber sash windows with 8 panes per sash, some of which have horns. A cob stack projects from the right gable, incorporating a late 16th- to early 17th-century volcanic stone fireplace with an oak lintel and an ovolo-moulded surround. The roof is believed to feature jointed cruck trusses. A late 19th-century brick addition stands behind the farmhouse, facing the farmyard. The roof was not inspected.
