Description
The linhay, cartway, and shippon, located approximately 40 meters southeast of Shobrooke Barton Farmhouse, date from the mid-19th century. These structures are built from cob on rubble footings, featuring machine-sawn pine posts, floors, trusses, and a slate roof. They form three continuous two-storey ranges that face into a large farmyard on three sides.
The southeast side has an 18-bay linhay, which adjoins a barn on the left. The southwest side features a twelve-bay linhay, while the northwest side includes a 6-bay linhay with an entrance from the road and a 9-bay shippon that adjoins a granary on the right. The linhays are constructed as a box-framed structure with an open front on each floor, tied into the rear cob walls. The shippon has two large front doors, each flanked by unglazed, two-light pine windows, and a small door at the right end. There are also two loading bays for first-floor haylofts. The front cob has been partly remodeled with 20th-century masonry. The roofs of all three ranges feature a continuous series of tie beam trusses. A freestanding rubble stone wall divides the farmyard.
