Description

Keeper's Cottage is a building that was originally two cottages at Home Farm, Shobrooke Park, dating from the early to mid 19th century. It features volcanic stone rubble on the ground floor and brick on the first floor, with brick stacks and a low-pitched hipped roof covered in single Roman clay tiles. The cottage is two stories tall with a five-room layout facing southwest. There is a gable end brick stack projecting to the left (northwest) and an axial brick stack located to the right of the center.

The cottage has recessed porches on either side of the center, supported by central timber posts and timber lintels, which were replaced with concrete around 1980. The front has five windows, although the fifth window on the first floor to the right appears to be missing. There were originally doorways in both recesses, but the doorway on the right side has been replaced by a window. The windows feature a four-centred arch design, with two-light windows that have iron casements and original leaded diamond panes surviving on the first floor to the right and at the rear. In the 20th century, timber frames were inserted below the arched heads, with plate glass used in the other windows. A change in the brickwork and a straight join at the rear suggest that the two rooms at the right end may have been added later.
