Description
East Lodge is a cottage that was formerly the lodge to Shobrooke House, built in the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed from volcanic rubble with brick stacks and features a thatched roof. The building has a two-storey, two-room layout facing southwest, away from the road, with an end outshut on the right side. The entrance door is located at the left end, and there is an axial stack. The roof is half-hipped on the left side, hipped on the right, and has a catslide to the right. The front has two windows, with brick segmental arches on the ground floor. The 19th-century windows are timber casements with two and three lights, each containing three panes.
There is a small single-storey, five-sided, timber-framed rustic projection with a half-cone thatched roof, which is clad with a diagonal pattern of branches and includes a single light window with diamond-pane leaded glass. The entrance features a 17th-century style, studded, six-panel door at the left end, along with a rustic porch that has canted sides and a thatched roof, supported by log posts and featuring a herringbone pattern of branches on the sides, which also include diamond-pane sidelights.
