Description

Farmhouse. It likely dates from the 16th century, with improvements made in the 17th century. The walls are plastered cob on rubble foundations; the stacks are rubble topped with 19th-century brick; and the roof is thatched. It’s a gable-end, three-room-and-through-passage house facing southwest, with an inner room at the northwest end. There are end stacks to the service and inner rooms, and an axial hall stack backing onto the passage. A 17th-century rear block extends behind the inner room, with a cob stack in its gable end, and a 19th-century gable-ended stair block to the rear of the passage. The front has two storeys and a regular facade with mostly late 19th- and 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars. A late 17th- to early 18th-century flat-faced mullion window with a central iron casement and leaded glass is situated above the hall (left of centre) on the first floor. A mullion-and-upper transom window above the front door (right of centre) may also be from the late 17th to early 18th century. The passage contains a 19th-century six-panel door with an overlight featuring glazing bars. The layout suggests that 16th- and 17th-century features remain inside, but the interior was inaccessible at the time of the survey.
