Description

Poole Cottage is likely an 18th-century farmhouse, modernised around 1970. It is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with rubble or cob stacks and a thatched roof. The building is L-shaped, comprising a three-room main block facing south-east, and a one-room wing projecting to the north-east. A rear lateral stack is situated to the left room of the main block, and another is on the exterior of the front wing. The cottage has two storeys, with an irregular three-window front to the main block featuring late 19th and 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars. Similar windows are found on all sides. The main front door was originally positioned to the left of centre, but is now located at the left end of the rear elevation, accessed via a 20th-century rubble-walled porch with canted sides and a hipped thatched roof. Both wings have hipped roofs. Plain carpentry details are visible internally. The roof was not inspected.
