Description

The Rectory, now a house, was originally built in the early 18th century and subsequently remodelled and enlarged during the mid-19th century. The main structure exhibits Flemish bond brickwork, incorporating some burnt headers, with a rear timber-framed service block. The roof is slate, finished with crested ridges incorporating fleur de lys finials. It is a gable-ended four-room block facing south, with a central staircase. A rear service block extends behind the right (east) end of the main block. The building features end stacks, a left axial stack, and a right rear lateral stack. The front elevation is irregular, featuring a four-window arrangement. A 20th-century front door is centrally located, set within a mid-19th-century flat-roofed porch supported by clustered shaft columns. It is flanked by tall, narrow 15-pane sashes. A sash window to the right includes a small window between the panes, with some Victorian coloured leaded glass. A 16-pane sash is located at the right end. Small two-light casements are above the windows, with the remainder being wide three-light casements, all with glazing bars. Segmental brick arches feature above all windows except those on the ground floor left. The right end has a 19th-century four-panel door within a Tuscan doorcase featuring pilasters and an entablature. Shaped bargeboards decorate both gable ends. The timber-framed rear block is double-gabled and contains two two-light windows with Victorian leaded coloured glass. The interior largely reflects a mid-19th-century refurbishment.
