Description

Church Cottage is a 17th-century cottage that has been modernised and partly rebuilt in the mid-20th century. The walls are plastered cob on rubble footings, with some rebuilding in brick. It has a rubble stack topped with 20th-century brick and a thatched roof. The cottage is three rooms deep, facing south-west, with the left end recessed slightly from the main front. A rear stack serves the large central room. The cottage has three windows to the first floor and four to the ground floor; all are 20th-century casements with glazing bars. The main door is in the left end, sheltered by a 20th-century thatched porch. The roof is hipped to the left and half-hipped to the right. The interior has been largely modernised, with the end rooms appearing to be 20th-century additions. The central room retains a 17th-century chamfered axial beam and a reset oak lintel, ovolo-moulded with exaggerated scroll stops, set into a 20th-century rebuilt fireplace. The cottage is included on the list for its group value.
