Description

Land Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early to mid-17th century, which has been modernised in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features plastered cob on rubble footings, with rubble stacks topped by 20th-century brick, and a thatched roof. The building is a three-room house facing south, consisting of a two-room lobby entrance main house with an axial stack that serves back-to-back fireplaces, and a service room at the right (east) end with a through passage, now featuring a 20th-century end stack. It is two storeys high and has an irregular three-window front.

The main house has a symmetrical two-window front with a central 19th-century four-panel door that has an overlight and a 20th-century slate-roofed monopitch hood. This door is flanked by late 19th-century three-light casements with glazing bars, and there are 19th-century 12-pane sashes on the first floor. The service room has late 19th to early 20th-century casements, and a 20th-century casement blocks the front door of the service through passage.

Inside, the early to mid-17th-century crossbeams and oak fireplace lintels are chamfered with exaggerated scroll stops, and the same treatment is applied to the lintel of the doorway through the internal cob crosswall to the service room. The roof is inaccessible, but the lower sections of the principals indicate that it is made up of A-frame trusses. This farmhouse is well-preserved and features an interesting plan.
