Description

Horridge Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 17th century, with renovations from the late 19th century. It is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, featuring rubble stacks topped with 20th-century brick (one of which is plastered) and a slate roof with a patent coating, which was originally thatch. The house has a two-room plan that faces south, with a central cross passage and stairs leading to the rear. It has end stacks, with the eastern stack projecting from the gable end. The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front, featuring late 19th-century casements with glazing bars. The central door, also from the late 19th century, is a six-panel design with the upper two panels glazed, and it is accompanied by a 20th-century porch with plain timber posts, trellis-work sides, and a corrugated iron monopitch roof.

The interior primarily reflects the late 19th-century renovations, with blocked fireplaces and boxed-in beams, although some 17th-century features may still be concealed. The left (western) room contains a large kitchen fireplace, and there is a cob crosswall between the passage and the right (eastern) room. The 17th-century roof structure includes an A-frame truss with a pegged lap-jointed collar.
