Description
Brindifield and The Cottage are two cottages built around the mid-19th century. They are constructed from plastered cob or rubble, with a rubble stack that is topped with 19th and 20th-century brick, and feature a thatched roof. The cottages are semi-detached and face south, with Brindifield on the left (west) and The Cottage on the right (east). They have identical layouts on either side of a party wall, consisting of a heated inner room and an outer entrance lobby with stairs. A large projecting rear lateral stack is shared by both cottages.
The buildings are two storeys high and have a symmetrical front with four windows, mostly original casements that include glazing bars. The only exception is the ground floor right window of The Cottage, which was replaced in the 20th century. Each cottage has a doorway at either end, both of which are sheltered by original porches featuring slated gable roofs, crested ridge tiles, and shaped bargeboards. The roof is hipped at both ends. Inside, the cottages have plain carpentry details where they are exposed. They are included for their group value.
