Description

Rafters and The Stable are two houses that were originally stable blocks for Creedy Park, built in the late 18th century to early 19th century and converted into homes around 1979. The buildings are constructed of Flemish bond brick on a rubble base, with a stucco front and a slate roof. They form an L-shaped block, with the main section facing south and a forward projecting block at the left (west) end. There is a central carriageway to the main block, with The Stable on the right, including a west wing, and Rafters on the left.

The buildings are two storeys high and exhibit a Neo-classical style. The main block has a six-window front, with three windows on either side of the carriageway. The carriageway slightly projects forward from the main range and features a large elliptical arch supported by moulded Portland stone imposts. Rafters has a central 20th-century six-panel door with a single light and side lights, while The Stable has a central 20th-century six-panel door with an over light and side lights in its three-window west wing. All ground floor windows are 12-pane sashes, and there are oval windows with glazing bars on the first floor. The front has a parapet with a Portland stone finish, and the rear is exposed brick on rubble up to the first floor level, featuring a rear elliptical arch with large timber gate-posts. All windows and doors were updated around 1979, and the front, rear, and interior were also remodeled during this time.
