Description
West Lodge is a lodge to Creedy Park, now functioning as a private house. It was built in the early 19th century and enlarged in the 20th century. The structure features plastered rubble with an exposed granite plinth and rubble stacks topped with exposed brick chimney shafts, all under a slate roof.
The building consists of two separate small heated rooms connected by a roofed carriageway that faces the road to the west. It has a symmetrical front with a central large semi-circular arch under a roof that runs parallel to the road. This arch is flanked by gable-ended rooms, each containing a 12-pane sash window and tall chimney shafts on either side.
The front arch is adorned with wrought-iron double gates that feature gate posts with a trellis pattern and bifurcated scroll-work heads. The gates sweep down to the center and include wide-spaced railings, a double lockrail with a frieze of Vitruvian scrollwork, and upward curving rails above and below, the latter featuring a dograil of arrowheads. There are 6-panel doors on either side of the carriageway, each with doorcases that include a key-pattern frieze on the entablature. A 20th-century extension is present on the left (north) room. The lodge is similar in style to Creedy Park East Lodge.
