Description
No. 10 Union Road is a house built around 1836, coinciding with the construction of Union Road. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick and has an asbestos slate roof that replaced the original natural slate. The house has a double depth plan and is two rooms wide, standing three storeys tall with a symmetrical two-bay front above the ground floor.
The exterior features deep eaves with a detailed frieze below, supported by moulded brackets above an arrangement of alternate mutules and rosettes. There are painted platbands at the first and second floor levels. On the first floor, there are two segmental-headed 12-pane flush-frame hornless sash windows with painted segmental brick arches above, alongside two square-headed flush-frame hornless sash windows with three panes over six panes.
The ground floor has undergone alterations in the 20th century but still retains a doorcase with pilasters, an entablature, panelled reveals, and a recessed timber panelled door from the 20th century. To the left of the door, there is a large disused plate glass shop window from the 20th century with a plain fascia; the remains of a painted segmental arch above suggest it replaced a sash window rather than an earlier shop window. The interior has not been inspected but may contain interesting features.
