Description
No. 3 Union Terrace is a house from the late 18th century, constructed with a plastered exterior and a slate roof, featuring a right end stack with a brick chimney. The building has a double depth plan and includes a cartway to the right. It is positioned slightly above the road and has two storeys with a symmetrical front that includes two windows on the ground floor and one above the cartway. The facade is enhanced by rusticated pilasters on either side.
Access is provided by granite steps leading to a central doorway, which is framed by an early 19th-century doorcase that has thin consoles and a deep entablature, with panelled reveals. The recessed front door consists of six panels, with the top panels being glazed. On either side of the door are early 19th-century 16-pane sash windows, while the first floor features three late 18th-century flush frame sash windows with three panes over six panes.
The interior has been altered due to previous use as a doctors' surgery, but it may still contain interesting features. This house is part of a notable row of late Georgian houses in Union Terrace, which served as the main street through the town until Union Road was constructed in 1836.
