Description
St Breocks Cottage is a small urban cottage built around 1810-1820, possibly as a remodelling of an earlier house. It is constructed of roughcast cob and features a flat tarred roof, with the stack not visible. The building has an L-shaped plan, with the main block running parallel to the road, single depth, and one room wide, with an entrance at the right end facing the stair. There is a front left wing at right angles, which contains one room.
The cottage is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with one window. To the right is a recessed four-panel front door, while to the left is a ground floor bow with a sash window that has 5/10 panes, although the top light was originally 10 panes. Above, on the first floor, is a 16-pane sash window. Both windows retain some old glass. The inner return of the wing features a front door with four fielded panels and 16-pane sash windows.
Inside, there is reeded moulding around the bow and some 19th-century joinery. St Breocks Cottage is part of a row that includes some of the best Georgian houses in Crediton.
