Description

No. 6 St Peter Street is a house dating from around the 1830s, though it may be a remodelling of an earlier structure. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brick and features a slate roof that is hipped at both the front and rear. It has a rear right lateral stack with multiple chimney pots and cast-iron rainwater goods. The house is two rooms wide with a central rear stair and an entrance passage to the left, along with two small projections at the back. The differences in brickwork between the ground floor and the right return indicate that extensive remodelling has taken place.

The exterior consists of three storeys and a cellar, with an asymmetrical two-window front and a moulded band at the first-floor level. The windows on the first and second floors have rubbed brick arches. There are steps leading up to the door on the left, which features a shallow pilastered doorcase with sunk panels and fluted consoles beneath a frieze of sunk panels and a cornice. The front door has four panels, with the upper panels being fielded, and an overlight made up of four oval panes. To the right, there is a triple sash window with fluted consoles, a plain entablature, and a projecting cornice. This window is glazed with a 12-pane sash in the centre and 4-pane sashes on the outer sides. The first floor has two 12-pane sash windows, while the second floor features two 3 over 6-pane sashes. The rear elevation also retains sash windows, including a stair sash with margin panes.

The interior has been partially inspected and includes an early 19th-century stick baluster stair with a wreathed handrail. Some 19th-century panelled doors remain, and there may be other interesting features upstairs.
