Description
This is a threshing barn, likely built in the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is constructed of cob on rubble footings and has a corrugated asbestos roof, which was originally thatch. The barn faces south and is attached to the lower end of Lower Bridge Farmhouse, featuring large doorways for the threshing floors that are slightly off-center. These doorways are flanked by short projecting midstrey walls. The roof is gabled-ended and includes a narrow ventilator in the end wall. Inside, there is a 5-bay roof supported by A-frame trusses with pegged lap-jointed collars. The front of the barn is mostly hidden by 20th-century concrete block sheds with lean-to roofs. This barn complements the attractive farmhouse next to it.
