Description

A row of three cottages, likely dating from the early 19th century, situated in Lapford. The cottages are constructed of plastered cob or rubble with rubble stacks, some topped with 19th and 20th-century brick, and have a corrugated asbestos roof, which originally was thatch. The cottages are arranged in a row facing south, each with a two-room plan. Number 1, at the western end, has an end stack; number 2, in the centre, features a projecting rear lateral stack serving the left-hand room; and number 3, at the eastern end, has an end stack. Each cottage presents a balanced two-window front with mostly 19th-century casement windows featuring glazing bars, with the larger windows positioned on the side of the heated rooms. Central 19th-century plank doors provide access. The roof is gable-ended at each end. The interiors have limited exposed carpentry. The roof structure has not been inspected. This is a well-preserved row of small cottages.
