Description
This is a 19th-century linhay located approximately 45 meters southeast of West Ford Farmhouse in Cheriton Bishop. The structure is built of cob on rubble footings, with some 20th-century brick patching. It features granite piers and a timber frame, topped with a slate roof. The linhay has two storeys and faces north, with a roof that is hipped to the right and gabled to the left, although the brick gable suggests that the left end was originally hipped as well. The building consists of four bays, with granite orthostats supporting massive cross beams. These beams hold up the hayloft floor and seat rising posts that carry low pitch A-frame roof trusses, which have pegged, lap-jointed collars. The right bay appears to have never been floored and was presumably used as a cartshed.
