CREDITON HAMLETS Rudge Farmhouse including front garden railings to south-east

Farmhouse. Circa 1830-40. Brick with slate roof. L-shaped building. 2-room main block with central staircase plan facing south-east with kitchen and service block at right angles behind left side. End stacks to main block and outer lateral stack to kitchen. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3 window front. Central 6-panel door with overlight with glazing bars, panelled reveals and moulded doorcase with entablature. Window embrasures have gauged brick heads, and chamfered reveals. All are 3-light windows with roll-moulded mullions and contain cast iron casements of 21 small rectangular panes each. Deep projecting eaves and roof-hipped each side flanked by tall chimney shafts. The iron front garden railings are on rubble footings. The shafts have spear heads and gate posts have anthemion heads. Farmhouse is very similar to Wellparks Farmhouse, Crediton, which is also part of Buller Estate.
