Description
Down Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse constructed of rubble stone with a stone slate roof and end stacks. It is two storeys and has an attic, arranged in an L-shape. The front of the farmhouse has a double frontage with flush mullion windows; a two-light window is on the left side, a three-light window on the right side, and a central 20th-century door within a flush moulded surround with a hood on brackets. Similar two-light windows are found on the end wall, the rear of the building, and the rear wing. Hood moulds are present over the lower windows.
Attached to the rear of the wing is a barn dating to the 19th century. It has a plain cart entry on the south side and a gabled entry on the north side. The roof is covered with Bridgwater tiles, and there is a lean-to structure on the left side, overlapping the farmhouse wall. To the east of the barn is a range of eight 19th-century stalls, defined by brick and stone piers that taper towards the top.
